Recent Advances in Design and Development of Nitroheteroarene‐Based Pesticides
ABSTRACT Heterocyclic nitro compounds (nitroheteroarenes) constitute a very important class of organic compounds. They have found application in various fields and possess a wide range of valuable practical properties. Nitroheteroarenes are currently used as high‐energy materials, pharmaceuticals, agrochemicals, and in many other fields. Despite the importance of heterocyclic nitro compounds, their pesticidal activities have not been reviewed to date. At the same time the chemistry of nitroheteroarenes is actively developing along with the application of these compounds as promising fungicides and insecticides. Therefore, this review summarizes the literature on the design, synthesis, and evaluation of nitro‐heterocyclic compounds as pesticides from 2001 to the present. Structure‐activity relationships and the main directions of development of pesticides based on nitroheteroarenes are also discussed.
