Molecular identification of microorganisms: identification of microorganisms cultivated on microbiological media based on the analysis of gene sequences
This technique allows identification of genus/species of microorganisms based on the sequence of several, usually seven, selected loci, with the analysis involving the sequences of those genes that determine the basic functions of the cell. The data collected on the basis of sequences can be compared between laboratories. This technique is an accurate molecular tool for the identification of the main bacterial or fungal population in different environments.
