SuperMoTo: an integrated monitoring matrix, room correction and Ambisonics decoding plugin for audio production and immersive listening rooms
SuperMoTo is an open-source audio plugin (VST3, AU and Standalone) that puts a studio’s monitoringsignal chain into one plugin instance. From that instance it routes up to 32 inputs to 32 outputs througha configurable gain-and-EQ matrix, applies per-loudspeaker FIR correction filters derived from in-roomacoustic measurements, time-aligns the loudspeakers of a rig and phase-aligns a subwoofer to the correctedmain speakers, and generates periphonic Ambisonics decoders up to third order for immersive listeningrooms. Acoustic measurement tools and a transfer-function analysis and correction design engine arebuilt in, so the whole calibration workflow happens inside the plugin, one loudspeaker at a time or for awhole rig in a single pass. Measured on a stereo rig with one subwoofer at ten listening positions, througheight filter variants played side by side, the subwoofer alignment held the level through the crossover towithin 0.03 dB when its design delay was shortened by 14 ms, where a minimum-phase correction lost2.2 dB to 2.3 dB, and confining the phase correction to the crossover region removed 14 dB to 24 dBof pre-echo from 500 Hz to 8 kHz without changing the summation. It is implemented in C++ usingthe JUCE framework and is licensed under the AGPL 3.0, or under commercial terms for holders of acommercial JUCE licence.
