Proximal socioecological profiles and their association with psychosexual health among adolescent students: a cross-sectional study

To identify the proximal socioecological profiles of adolescents and explore their associations with psychosexual health. A questionnaire survey was administered to 3,419 students aged 14–19 from three high schools in Shandong Province. Based on the socialecological theory, ten proximal indicators were used in latent profile analysis to identify the characteristics of the socioecological profiles. The Bolck-Croon-Hagenaars mixed model was utilized to analyze the differences of the profiles in adolescent psychosexual health. Three profiles were identified, i.e., class 1 (Moderate proximal ecological resources with low Internet pornography exposure), class 2 (High psychological trait, supportive school and family), and class 3 (High sensation seeking and more Internet pornography exposure). The three profiles demonstrated significant differences in psychosexual health score ( p < 0.05). Adolescents exhibit distinct profiles that can be categorized into three subgroups. Significant differences in psychosexual health exist among the three groups.
