Neutrophil to lymphocyte ratio at stoma site predicts colorectal cancer prognosis

This research examines the connection between the neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) observed at the stoma site and the prognostic outcomes in patients with colorectal cancer, in comparison to individuals without cancer. By conducting a retrospective analysis of clinical records from 83 colorectal cancer patients and 28 non-cancer controls, we evaluated the variances in NLR levels at the stoma site across the two cohorts and explored the relationship between NLR and patient prognosis. Findings reveal that colorectal cancer patients exhibit a significantly elevated NLR at the stoma site compared to non-cancer patients ( P < 0.05). Furthermore, a high NLR is notably linked to overall survival in those affected by colorectal cancer ( P < 0.05). This research delivers preliminary insights for the prognostic evaluation of colorectal cancer patients.
