Remembering Gandhi and Rediscovering Humanity: Gandhi Jayanti 2026

Usually, the celebration of Gandhi Jayanti in India takes the form of a national observance, marked by official ceremonies in which the President, Prime Minister, and other leaders pay floral tributes and offer prayers at Gandhiji’s memorial at Raj Ghat, New Delhi. Government offices, schools, and banks remain closed. Gandhi Bhavans and other Gandhian institutions across the country organise prayer meetings and commemorative programmes. His favourite bhajans, ‘Raghupati Raghav Raja Ram’ and ‘Vaishnav Jan To’ are sung, while statues and portraits of Gandhi are garlanded.
