Preparation of Eugenol-Containing Epoxy–Siloxane Polymers for Coating Materials
In this work, an eugenol-containing polysiloxane was synthesized by means of a hydrosilylation reaction between eugenol and polymethylhydridesiloxane. It was found from the laser interferometry that the obtained polymer can be compatible with some epoxy resins and that the compatibility increases with epoxy resin molecular weight. Thus, the synthesized polymers are fully compatible with epoxy resins with molecular weights of less than 700. The compositions of epoxy resin and the synthesized eugenol-containing siloxane polymer can be cured at temperatures higher than 180 °C and are able to form coatings with good physico-mechanical properties. It was found that the addition of a siloxane polymer leads to an increase in thermal stability, and that the Td5% for all compositions was higher than 340 °C. In addition, the obtained coatings have contact angles of 83–92°, which is higher than that for epoxy resins cured with traditional curing agents.
