Enhancement of performance by the utilization of one-dimensional OCDMA codes in a three-dimensional system

Abstract The present research evaluates a new approach to solve problems associated with temporal spreading, spectral spreading, and spatial mode allocation of the OCDMA network. The new system uses the DEU code for temporal spreading, the MS code extension for spectral spreading, and MD code for spatial mode allocation. The system utilizes a modified DEU code for temporal spreading, the modified MS code extension for spectral spreading, and MD code for spatial mode allocation. The encoder in this system generates codes in the spectral, temporal spreading, and spatial domains. There are noises taken into consideration for the analysis of the proposed OCDMA implementation: phase-induced intensity noise, thermal noise, and shot noise. Results show that the new 3D OCDMA system outperforms current codes in terms of transmission rate, user count, required spectral width, and received power. The suggested 3D DEU-MS-MD ( M = 7, N = 20, P = 7) code enables data transmission for up to 300 users. It achieves a BER of 10 −10 at −10 dB m received power. However, the 3D DEU-DEU-MD code supports only 220 users, while the 3D-MD and 2D-MS codes support 240 and 128 users, respectively.
