Diagnosis and Surgical Treatment of Acral Lentiginous Melanoma on Third Toe of 57-Year-Old Male: A Case Report

We report a case of a 57-year-old male patient who presented with localized redness with possible cellulitis to the third toe. The podiatrist performed a shave biopsy with a Breslow’s depth of at least 1.1 mm. Pathological results confirmed a Clark’s Level 4 malignant melanoma over the nail bed area. The surgical oncologist biopsied the sentinel lymph node and left inguinal node, which tested negative for malignancy by immunohistochemistry and multilevel hemotoxylin and eosin. The surgical team performed a left third-toe amputation. During a nine-month follow-up, the patient remained in remission. This paper aims to contribute to the guidelines for recognition of melanoma of the foot and nail unit to prevent delay in diagnosis.
