The use of methylprednisolone in the comprehensive treatment of the erosive-ulcerative form of the oral lichen planus

Introduction. Oral lichen planus is a chronic multifactorial disease characterized by polymorphic clinical manifestations. Its pathogenesis involves an autoimmune mechanism of inflammation mediated by a T-cell immune response to an unknown antigen (or antigens) in genetically predisposed individuals. The aim of the study was to evaluate the efficacy of the drug methylprednisolone as part of combination therapy in the treatment of the erosive-ulcerative form of oral lichen planus. Materials and methods. To achieve this objective, comprehensive treatment was carried out in patients with the erosive-ulcerative form of oral lichen planus using methylprednisolone as the drug of choice. Results. The obtained results were compared with those of a control group of patients who received Prednisolone as part of conventional combination therapy. As a result of the study, it was concluded that methylprednisolone-based medications can be effectively used in the treatment of the erosive-ulcerative form of oral lichen planus. The pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic characteristics of this drug make it possible to minimize complications associated with systemic glucocorticoid therapy.
