THE ADVANTAGES AND LIMITATIONS OF USING ONLINE PLATFORMS IN MUSIC EDUCATION

The rapid development of digital technologies has significantly transformed the ways in which music is taught and learned. Online platforms have become an increasingly important component of music education, providing learners with flexible access to instructional materials, interactive activities, digital resources, and opportunities for independent learning. This article examines the main advantages and limitations of using online platforms in music education. Particular attention is given to accessibility, flexibility, individualized learning, the availability of diverse musical resources, and the development of learners’ digital and musical competencies. At the same time, the study considers challenges such as technical problems, unequal access to digital technologies, limited real-time interaction, difficulties in teaching practical performance skills, and challenges associated with assessment. Drawing on recent research on online and technology-enhanced music education, the article highlights the importance of combining digital learning opportunities with appropriate pedagogical approaches. The findings suggest that online platforms can contribute substantially to the effectiveness and accessibility of music education when they are integrated thoughtfully into the teaching process. However, they should complement rather than completely replace face-to-face instruction, particularly in areas requiring direct musical interaction and practical performance.
