Palacky Bridge in Prague: survey and UHPFRC design for a heritage bridge
The paper describes a detailed survey of a historic stone bridge structure over the Vltava River in Prague, which includes a restoration proposal using the modern composite matenorial ultra-high performance fibre-reinforced concrete. The bridge is an essential part of the cultural heritage of the city of Prague and has a total length of 229 m, consisting of eight spans. It was severely damaged by bombing at the end of World War II and was repaired several years later. The reconstruction included widening the bridge deck by adding concrete cantilevers. These are now at the end of their useful life and a new solution needs to be found for this historic bridge structure.
