Abstract

The article systematizes the concept of the information field in the context of two competing ontological models: physicalist (information as primary substance) and materialist/projective (information as an attribute of projection, dependent on the observer and level of description G). Unlike existing approaches – Wheeler's "It from Bit," IAMR/UIAM, Amrita Field Theory (AFT), Neerhut Unified Informational Field Theory (NUIFT), and the "Theory of Information Field" (TIF) – the article offers a systematic comparison of both positions with a clear articulation of the author's materialist stance. A key distinction is introduced between the information field ("substance": the totality of information objects and their connections) and information space ("form": the structure in which this substance is organized). Properties of the information field are analyzed: primacy or secundity, carrierlessness, structuredness, holographicity, projectivity, non-physicality, and topological complexity. In the physicalist model, the information field is the primary reality from which matter, space, time, and everything else emerge. In the EFOS model, the information field is a projection of EFOS at a specific G, and information is an attribute of projection, not a substance. The article also examines the information field at the level of the individual subject and the group, and establishes connections with other MBM concepts: projection operator P(G), information objects and connections, PCI, and verification markers (I_PA, K_G, I_ARD, η_info). The article critiques the physicalist interpretation of information as an ontological entity, citing works that argue information exists only as an epistemic model. The article concludes that the concept of the information field remains open for refinement, and proposes perspectives for further research, including the search for a unifying model that could combine both approaches.
