D2.1 - Data Management Plan v1

The Data Management Plan (DMP) is a living document that will undergo regular updates throughout the duration of the project, with each revised version incorporated into subsequent deliverables. This document represents the initial version of the DTO4OWE Data Management Plan, coordinated within the WP2 with contributions from all work packages. DTO4OWE’s data management strategy is guided by the FAIR principles (Wilkinson et al., 2016) and by the Horizon Europe Open Research Data requirements. Building on an overview of the DTO4OWE project, this document outlines the types of observational and numerical data generated and used across the different work packages, describes the internal procedures for data handling throughout the project lifecycle, and defines provisions for data availability, sharing, and long-term stewardship. Ensuring that newly collected and generated data are accessible and compliant with FAIR principles for DTO4OWE stakeholders is a key objective of the project. “DTO4OWE data” include both newly generated datasets and data derived from or linked to existing open sources. The reuse of pre-existing data is strongly encouraged, in line with the European recommendation to “collect once, use many times,” while ensuring that such datasets are clearly identified and documented as external or pre-existing. To support traceability and interoperability, DTO4OWE promotes FAIR-aligned data and results management through the systematic use of persistent identifiers (PIDs). These include Digital Object Identifiers (DOIs) for datasets and publications, ORCID identifiers for researchers, and recognised identifiers for organisations (e.g. EDMO and/or ROR) as well as for the project itself (e.g. CORDIS grant DOI and European Directory of Marine and Environmental Research Projects). Where pre-existing datasets incorporated into DTO4OWE have not previously been published in recognised repositories, efforts will be made to link them to both DTO4OWE and their original source projects, ensuring proper attribution, traceability, and alignment with FAIR principles.
