Management/mitigation of lodging risk in rice (Oryza sativa L.)
A field experiment was conducted during Kharif, 2022 at Institute of Rice Research, Rajendranagar, Hyderabad in Telangana state. The objective of the study was to evaluate the efficacy of anti-lodging plant growth regulator on growth, development, yield of rice and to standardize the dose of plant growth regulator in Rice. The experiment was laid out in split plot design with two nitrogen levels as main plots i.e., 100% Recommended dose of nitrogen (RDN) (120 N kg/ha), 150% RDN (180 N kg/ha) in sub plot consisting of different doses of growth regulator i.e., G1: Untreated check. G2: Paclobutrazol 25% EC at 30 g a.i./ ha, G3: Paclobutrazol 25% EC at 50 g a.i./ ha, G4: Paclobutrazol 25% EC at 70 g a.i./ ha, G5: Paclobutrazol 25% EC at 90 g a.i./ ha and G6: 50% higher K. In untreated check higher plant height (114.7), significantly lowest culm strength (0.39) was noticed. Significantly highest culm strength was recorded in application paclobutrazol at 90 g a.i./ha (0.60). At recommended dose of nitrogen the percent reduction in plant height was 3.9, 5.2, 9.0 and 9.8 with Paclobutrazol application at 30,50, 70and 90 g a.i./ ha respectively without effecting the grain yield.
