THE WHITE KILLER: THE GLOBAL HISTORY OF SERIAL MURDER AMONG WHITE POPULATIONS

This independent article explores the recorded history and relative frequency of serial murder among people classed as White or Caucasian with specific reference on the period from 1900 through 2025. The study is descriptive, historical, comparative and evidence-based. It asks what the available records actually show. The strongest consistently racialized longitudinal dataset identified is the Radford/FGCU Serial Killer Database, which records the race of U.S. serial killers by decade. White offenders are the largest racial category in the long historical record through the twentieth century and the first two decades of the twenty-first century. Their share decreases considerably, while the registered share of Black and Hispanic offenders increases. International evidence is less uniform as most nations do not have serial-homicide databases with equivalent racial classifications. However, national research and documented cases from Britain, Germany, Italy, Australia, Canada, South Africa, Russia, France, Spain, Austria, Belgium, the Netherlands, Scandinavia, and elsewhere show that serial murder has a long international history and that European/White populations have made a large and historically prominent contribution to the pool of identified offenders. The paper concludes that the documented record supports a strong historical association between serial murder and White populations, especially in the major Western archives in which race is systematically recorded. It also concludes that a valid worldwide racial percentage cannot be calculated from existing international data because racial classification, case ascertainment, historical records, and database coverage are inconsistent across countries. The conclusion therefore rests on the strongest defensible proposition supported by the available evidence: White offenders have constituted the largest historically documented racial category of serial killers in the best-developed racialized datasets, and White populations have an unusually prominent historical record of serial murder across several countries and periods.
