Community–Campus Partnerships for Student Basic Needs
ABSTRACT Although much of the literature on community–university partnerships is about experiential learning (e.g., service‐learning) or research (e.g., community‐engaged scholarship), this article explores community–campus partnerships for supporting students’ basic needs. The need for these partnerships is vital, as the number of college students experiencing food and/or housing insecurity while obtaining their degree(s) continues to increase. Following a review of relevant literature, we share several examples of these community–campus partnerships in action. We conclude the article with a set of considerations for higher education institutions that wish to develop successful and lasting community–campus partnerships.
