Making Student Learning Visible: The LASSO Platform
Effective STEM teaching depends on evidence about student learning. Using research-based assessments, however, often requires substantial time and expertise. The LASSO platform (lassoeducation.org) reduces these barriers by helping educators find, administer, analyze, and interpret assessments. LASSO hosts over 100 RBAs and provides reports that situate course outcomes within the context of similar courses to support reflective teaching and instructional improvement. Beyond end-of-course summaries, LASSO supports fine-grained measures of student learning through adaptive cognitive diagnostics that educators can administer throughout a course. These assessments allow educators to measure learning objectives over time and use the results to inform instruction. By connecting classroom assessment, educator reflection, and cross-institution collaboration, LASSO serves as a shared national infrastructure that supports both instructional improvement and collaborative research across STEM education.
