Revisiting Enderlein's Richardiidae (Diptera): an illustrated catalogue of type specimens in the Museum and Institute of Zoology, PAS (Warsaw, Poland)

An illustrated catalogue of the type material of Richardiidae (Diptera) described by Günther Enderlein and preserved in the Museum and Institute of Zoology of the Polish Academy of Sciences (MiIZ PAS), Warsaw, is presented. The study is based on a comprehensive examination of the historical Stettin collection and includes photographs, label data, and an assessment of the nomenclatural status of all available type specimens. A total of 76 Richardiidae specimens were located, originally assigned to 31 species and subspecies, together with two specimens identified as Melanoloma sp. The material includes primary types of 15 species described by Enderlein in 1912–1913. No type specimens attributable to species described by Enderlein in 1927 were found. A lectotype is designated for Megalothoraca hendeli Enderlein, 1912 to fix its taxonomic status. A checklist of Richardiidae species represented in the MiIZ PAS collection is provided. In addition, a brief biographical note on Günther Enderlein is included. This catalogue contributes to the documentation and stabilization of Richardiidae nomenclature and facilitates future taxonomic research on the family.
