Miocene to Quaternary Tectonostratigraphic Evolution of the Northern Section of the Burdur‐Fethiye Shear Zone, South‐Western Türkiye
ABSTRACT The Burdur‐Fethiye Shear Zone (BFSZ) is a deformation zone accommodating strain partitioning between extensional and compressional domains in south‐western Türkiye. It exhibits a broad, linear geometry with a width of ~75–90 km and extends from Şuhut‐Çay to Sarıgerme‐Gelemiş onshore, continuing offshore toward the Pliny‐Strabo Fault Zone. The evolution of the lacustrine basins along this zone is linked to transtensional shearing driven by the interplay of extensional, compressional and rotational tectonic settings in the region. This study focuses on the stratigraphic and tectonic framework of the northern section of the BFSZ, complementing earlier investigations of its middle and southern sections. The study area encompasses the Acıgöl, Tefenni, Burdur, Eğirdir, and Karamık basins, as well as the Haydarlı, Şuhut, and Çamur plains. These basins and plains represent restricted remnants of formerly extensive carbonate lakes, locally overlain or intersected by volcanic deposits. New radiometric dating results, fault kinematic analysis, digital elevation modelling, and earthquake data are integrated to reveal the internal segmentation of the study area and its temporal relationship with Miocene‐Quaternary basin development. New U–Pb zircon ages from volcanic tuff layers provide key constraints on the Neogene stratigraphy and contribute to refining the temporal evolution of the northern section of the BFSZ.
