The Photographic Collection of the Bibliotheca Hertziana – from Mass Digitization to Online Navigator

This paper summarizes for Digital Humanities specialists and Data Humanists alike, how the Photographic Collection of the Bibliotheca Hertziana was digitized and made available to the public in a web application (https://nav.biblhertz.it/). In this creative process, things were kept simple and accessible while publishing in bulk as much data as possible and in the best quality possible. The paper addresses systematically why specific choices were made at each step with regard to organization of information, quality of available data and presentation. In doing so it compares the internal version with a larger scope and the version facing the public which limits the contents presented and gives priority to accessibility and usability.
