DEVELOPMENT OF BREATHING, ARTICULATION, AND DICTION SKILLS IN CHORAL SINGING

Breathing, articulation, and diction are fundamental components of effective choral singing and play an important role in achieving vocal clarity, musical expressiveness, and ensemble cohesion. In choral education, the development of these skills requires systematic and continuous training that considers both individual vocal abilities and the collective requirements of the choir. Proper breathing provides singers with adequate breath support and contributes to vocal stability, while clear articulation and accurate diction ensure that musical texts are understandable and expressive. This article examines the main approaches to developing breathing, articulation, and diction skills in choral singing. Particular attention is given to breathing exercises, correct pronunciation, consonant and vowel formation, and the coordination of speech and vocal production during choir rehearsals. The study also considers the role of the conductor in organizing effective vocal exercises and improving the overall quality of choral performance. Based on relevant literature in vocal and choral pedagogy, the article emphasizes the importance of integrating these skills into regular rehearsal practices. The findings suggest that systematic exercises and consistent pedagogical guidance can significantly improve vocal control, textual intelligibility, and ensemble performance in choral singing.
