Probabilistic Characterisation of Service Lifetime of Ageing Infrastructures

Abstract Ageing infrastructures are increasingly exposed to deterioration mechanisms related to time, environmental conditions, and increasing operational demands. Ensuring their safety and serviceability therefore requires continuous monitoring and reliable methods to assess their structural condition over time. In this context, several research chairs have recently been established in France and particularly in Grenoble. A common feature is the development of probabilistic approaches for the characterisation of infrastructure lifetime, and enhancing their resilience. This contribution aims to provide insight into multidisciplinary approaches leading to t h e so-called “fragility curves”. These curves, used and developed particularly in earthquake engineering, are being extended to various applications such as road infrastructures, steel structures or reinforced concrete structures, particularly under fatigue. This work is preliminary to the next ESReDA seminar where these chairs will be invited to present their contributions in greater detail.
