Politics and values: Some reflections on “Standards in Sociology”

My comment on Aksoy et al.’s position statement endorses the need for high standards within sociological research but reflects further on the role of values and political engagement. Returning to Weber’s iconic lecture on ‘Science as a Vocation’, I argue that the future prospects for sociology will depend on our capacity to tackle the deep, and often troubling, questions of our times in ways which resonate with wider audiences.
