ADVANCING SUSTAINABLE AND GREEN ECONOMY DEVELOPMENT IN UZBEKISTAN THROUGH BILATERAL CARBON CREDITING MECHANISMS
Global climate change demands Uzbekistan's strategic transition from the top-down structures of the Kyoto Protocol to the flexible, bottom-up framework of the Paris Agreement. Facing rising temperatures, the nation has established an ambitious goal to significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions intensity by 2035 through the implementation of Article 6 mechanisms. One of the key mechanisms in this perspective is the Joint Crediting Mechanism (JCM), a bilateral partnership with Japan that facilitates the transfer of high- tech green innovations and secures international climate trade. Uzbekistan has implemented comprehensive national legislation and established institutional frameworks consistent with international standards to promote transparency and prevent double counting. Building on achievements in Central Asia, collaborative initiatives are focused on encouraging economic growth independent of carbon, with an emphasis on sustainability.
