Quantum circuits, hypercubeharmonic, and remote networked improvisation: a case study
Abstract Mathematics and theoretical physics not only allow us to investigate musical artworks, but also fuel artistic creativity and imagination. In this paper, we present an artistic framework inspired by mathematics and physics. We describe the HyperCubeHarmonic (HCH), an interactive 4D virtual instrument inspired by the Rubik’s cube (based on mathematics), and a custom-designed quantum circuit used as a ‘decision-making system’ for the rotations performed on the HCH. The three resulting chord sequences obtained in this way guided the Networked Music Performance ‘Telematic City Jam - Glasgow’, produced by the international ensemble Female Laptop Orchestra (FLO) for the Radiophrenia 2025 festival broadcast.
