THE WORKBOOK
Therapeutic self-help workbooks are almost universally organised around deficit. They open with a symptom inventory, proceed through a formulation of what has gone wrong, and close with a relapse-prevention plan. This is a structural inheritance from the medical model, not a finding about what helps. This paper describes THE WORKBOOK: a reproducible lattice for building clinical self-help instruments that contain no deficit question at any point, while retaining full modality rigour. The lattice specifies twelve thematic modules, five tools per module, one tool drawn from each of five evidence-based traditions (Cognitive Behavioural, Dialectical Behaviour, Compassion-Focused, Mindfulness, Internal Family Systems), and five movements per tool, each movement carrying three questions — nine hundred questions in a complete instrument. The five movements adapt Cooperrider's Appreciative Inquiry 4-D cycle (Discovery, Dream, Design, Destiny) and add a fifth, **Delight**, positioned not as decoration but as the adherence mechanism. A first complete instance, *Where It Already Works*, applies the lattice to rejection sensitivity. The contribution is the lattice, not the instance: the method is domain-portable, and the deficit-free constraint is shown to be compatible with — not a dilution of — established clinical technique. **Keywords:** appreciative inquiry, clinical self-help, strengths-based practice, rejection sensitivity, homework adherence, internal family systems, compassion-focused therapy, delight, positive psychology, therapeutic workbooks ---
