Strategic summaries: A visual synthesis of Malaysia's hydrogen economy technology roadmap

National hydrogen roadmaps are substantial strategic documents whose breadth and depth of content can hinder effective communication with key stakeholder groups. A case study based on Malaysia's Hydrogen Economy & Technology Roadmap demonstrates how detailed techno-economic modelling can be distilled into concise visual strategic summaries. Two bespoke visualizations were developed: (i) the first communicates the roadmap's strategic value proposition through an integrated narrative of economic opportunity, technology transition, investment, and national outcomes; (ii) the second presents the principal performance targets required to establish Malaysia as an internationally competitive hydrogen producer. Together, these visualizations illustrate a scalable approach to roadmap communication in which strategic summaries provide high-level entry points to a hierarchy of stakeholder-oriented visual narratives, leading to progressively more detailed thematic and project-level depictions.
