A Comparative Study of Developmental Challenges Faced by Early and Late Adolescents Dr. Ramendra Kumar Singh* Adolescence is a critical developmental period marked by rapid physical, emotional, and social changes. The problems experienced by adolescents may differ across various stages of adolescence. The present study aimed to examine the differences between early and late adolescents with regard to the problems they face and their level of life satisfaction. A descriptive comparative research design was employed. The sample comprised 150 adolescents selected through purposive sampling, including 75 early adolescents (10–13 years) and 75 late adolescents (17–19 years) drawn from schools and colleges Arrah. Data were collected using the Youth Problem Inventory, which assesses family, school/college, social, and personal and oversensitivity problems, along with a standardized Life Satisfaction Scale. Descriptive statistics and independent sample t-tests were used for data analysis. The results revealed that late adolescents experienced significantly higher levels of problems across all problem domains compared to early adolescents. The total problem score was also significantly higher among late adolescents, indicating increased problem severity with age. In contrast, early adolescents reported significantly higher levels of life satisfaction than late adolescents. The findings suggest that late adolescence is a more vulnerable developmental phase requiring greater psychological support. The study highlights the need for age-specific interventions to promote better adjustment and well-being among adolescents. *Senior Assistant Professor & Head, P.G.
