From the lethal triad to the lethal diamond and beyond: An AI‐augmented perspective on modern hemostatic resuscitation
Abstract Background Uncontrolled hemorrhage remains the leading cause of preventable mortality in both civilian and military trauma sectors. The paradigm of resuscitation has decisively shifted from aggressive crystalloid administration to Damage Control Resuscitation, centering on early hemostatic control and the mitigation of the “Lethal Diamond.” Objectives This Perspective aims to delineate the pathophysiological transition from the traditional lethal triad to the lethal diamond and to explore the integration of advanced diagnostics and artificial intelligence in modern hemostatic resuscitation. Methods We synthesized current literature and clinical paradigms regarding trauma‐induced coagulopathy by evaluating the diagnostic role of Viscoelastic Hemostatic Assays and the emerging applications of Clinical Decision Support Systems (CDSS) and Machine Learning (ML). Results The transition in trauma paradigm necessitates advanced diagnostic integration. The incorporation of CDSS and ML demonstrates significant potential in optimizing real‐time performance and overcoming cognitive burdens during complex clinical decision‐making in trauma care. Conclusions By integrating behavioral economics through “Nudges,” contemporary trauma systems can bridge the gap between guideline adherence and real‐time execution, ultimately enhancing survival in the critically injured patients.
