A case series of trichoscopy patterns in hair loss patients with iron deficiency anemia

Anemia affects a third of the global population, increasing morbidity and mortality, with iron deficiency being the commonest cause. Few authors have found low ferritin levels in patients with alopecia areata, telogen effluvium, and Female pattern hair loss. However, these authors have not established a strong correlation between the two. Few authors have strongly debated the impact of iron deficiency on any type of hair loss. We present to you four case reports presenting severe anemia and hair loss, depicting trichoscopy features like short hair, bent hairs, hair diameter variability, black dots, etc., with reversal of the findings after correction of anemia.
