Simulation study on combined combustion of diesel and pulverized coal fuels in a small-sized furnace
The paper presents numerical simulation on co-combustion of diesel fuel and pulverized coal in a small-sized furnace equipped with oil-steam burner. A comprehensive mathematical model is presented that describes heat and mass transfer in the burning and furnace apparatuses: diesel fuel evaporation under the steam jet impact, turbulent combustion of evaporated diesel, combustion of coal particles. Simulation demonstrated that the available combustion chamber with an oil-stream burner enables combustion of micronized coal and ensures stable operation for a broad range of coal flow rates. The recent results of numerical simulation can be used for designing small furnaces for flare-mode combustion of micronized coal.
