ULTRASOUND PREDICTORS OF REGRESSION OF ACUTE SUPERFICIAL VEIN THROMBOSIS OF THE LOWER EXTREMITIES DURING ANTICOAGULANT THERAPY
Acute superficial vein thrombosis (SVT) of the lower extremities is a clinically relevant complication of varicose vein disease. Despite its superficial localization, SVT may be associated with deep vein thrombosis and thromboembolic complications. Its pathogenesis involves venous stasis, endothelial injury and hypercoagulability, with a pronounced local inflammatory component. Therefore, the response to anticoagulant therapy may depend not only on pharmacological treatment but also on disease duration, thrombus organization, inflammatory burden and local hemodynamic conditions. Duplex ultrasonography permits dynamic assessment of thrombus morphology and may help predict treatment response.
