Reverse Logistics Practices and Sustainable Supply Chain within Nigeria's Electronics Industry

This study examined the role of reverse logistics (RL) in driving sustainable supply chain performance within Nigeria’s electronics industry, focusing on Zinox Technologies Limited, Lagos. Anchored on the Resource-Based View (RBV) and Natural-Resource-Based View (NRBV) theories, the research investigates how cost efficiency and recovery rate influence sustainability outcomes, specifically economic sustainability and environmental performance. Using a quantitative descriptive and explanatory design, data were collected from 269 employees across five departments, with analysis conducted through Structural Equation Modeling (SEM). Results reveal that recovery rate exerts a strong positive effect on environmental performance (β = 0.62, p < .001), while cost efficiency significantly enhances economic sustainability (β = 0.58, p < .001). Recovery rate also moderately contributes to economic sustainability, whereas cost efficiency shows only a weak, non-significant link to environmental outcomes. Model fit indices (CFI = 0.95, TLI = 0.94, RMSEA = 0.052, SRMR = 0.041) confirm the robustness of the SEM framework. The findings underscore that effective reverse logistics systems, characterized by high recovery rates and cost-efficient operations, are critical enablers of circular economy practices, profitability, and competitive advantage in the electronics sector. The study concludes that strengthening RL infrastructure, investing in employee capabilities, and adopting circular recovery strategies are essential for improving environmental responsibility and long-term financial viability in Nigeria’s electronics industry.
