Abstract

FrostByte is a desktop meteorological product suite: surface and upper-airanalyses, forecast charts, satellite and radar composites, soundings and crosssections, tropical-cyclone guidance, hydrologic and cryospheric products, andspace-weather displays. This is its technical reference. It derives thegoverning equations, numerical methods, and physical parameterizations behindevery product the suite draws, with each formula and constant transcribed fromthe production source rather than restated from the literature, so that anumber on a FrostByte chart can be traced to the expression that produced it. Ninety-six pages, twenty-one chapters in eight parts: moist thermodynamics andparcel theory; shear, helicity, storm motion, and the composite severeparameters; tropical-cyclone intensity, vortex structure, environmental shear, and ensemble track guidance; satellite radiometry, multispectral composites, geostationary navigation, and radar reflectivity; surface-observationassimilation and cross-section diagnostics; teleconnection indices, ensembleprobabilistics, hydrology, the cryosphere, radio meteorology, and spaceweather; map projections and GIS georeferencing; solar and lunar geometry. Anotation table and a primary-literature bibliography are included. Chapter 21 derives the isobar-thickness box count ("boxology") and documentsthe renderer's constants. It is the companion reference cited by the preprintof the same name, https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.22844862.
