Perspectives from Adolescents and Young Adults with ADHD: A Mixed Methods Study
The current study both qualitatively and quantitatively examined the advice recommendations of over 300 adolescents and adults with ADHD to other individuals with ADHD. This mixed methods study was conducted to examine this retrospective advice in order to help clinicians, scholars, and family members learn from the lived experiences of adults and adolescents with ADHD. The most commonly endorsed qualitative category of recommended advice was self-acceptance with almost half of participants indicating this advice for adolescents and young adults with ADHD. Studies such as the current study will aid in evaluating the scope of recommendations offered by adolescents and young adults with ADHD. The results of the current study indicate that the experiences of individuals with ADHD are varied, complex, and complicated.
