Polymyalgia Rheumatica: Contemporary Approaches to Diagnosis, Treatment, and Long-Term Management

This narrative review summarizes contemporary approaches to the diagnosis, treatment, and long-term management of polymyalgia rheumatica (PMR). It discusses clinical presentation, diagnostic assessment, differential diagnosis, imaging, glucocorticoid therapy, relapse monitoring, steroid-sparing strategies, and rehabilitation. Particular attention is given to the association between polymyalgia rheumatica and giant cell arteritis, as well as preservation of mobility and long-term physical function.
