Political Efficacy as a Mediator: Linking Visibility and Political Participation in Indonesia

Abstract* This study aims to analyze the role of political efficacy as a mediator in the relationship between political visibility through social media and political participation in Indonesia. This study uses a quantitative approach with a survey method of 136 respondents from various backgrounds. The instrument used includes a five-point Likert scale to measure visibility, political efficacy, and political participation. The results of the analysis show that visibility has a significant effect on political efficacy, but does not directly affect political participation. In contrast, political efficacy has a significant effect on political participation, thus acting as an important mediator in the relationship. The findings suggest the importance of strengthening citizens’ confidence in the political process so that exposure to information can be followed by concrete actions in participatory democracy.
