Revisiting Roth’s Paradox of Historical Narratives

Abstract This paper presents Paul Roth’s Paradox of Historical Narratives and three options: reject the paradox, accept the paradox, or resolve the paradox. I show how the paradox motivates a view called ‘narrativism’ in the philosophy of history, and that narrativists must either accept or resolve the paradox. I argue that narrativists should resolve the paradox.
