Revised concept of the paederine rove beetle genus Lypeticus Sharp, 1886 with the genus Leiporaphes Bernhauer, 1912 as a synonym and three species new to science (Coleoptera, Staphylinidae)

We revise the Neotropical paederine genera Lypeticus Sharp, 1886 and Leiporaphes Bernhauer, 1912, the latter being a monotypic genus. Examination of the type material demonstrates that Leiporaphes is congeneric with Lypeticus and is therefore placed in synonymy with the latter, resulting in the new combination Lypeticus attarum (Bernhauer, 1912), comb. nov . The revision includes redescriptions of all previously known species, the description of three new species, Lypeticus nori sp. nov ., L. paraguayensis sp. nov ., and L. plaumanni sp. nov ., and an identification key. We also report the first records of the genus from Bolivia, Costa Rica, Mexico, and Paraguay, considerably expanding its known distribution in the Neotropical region. In addition, we provide a revised generic diagnosis, detailed morphological documentation, including male genital and thoracic characters, and new distributional and habitat data that facilitate the identification of species and improve our understanding of the diversity and distribution of this uncommon genus.
