Indole alkaloids from Catharanthus roseus and their anti-inflammatory activity

A phytochemical investigation of the ethanol extract from Catharanthus roseus resulted in the isolation of three indole alkaloids, including a previously undescribed catharanthine A ( 1 ), along with two known analogues ( 2 and 3 ). Their structures were elucidated through comprehensive spectroscopic analysis and electronic circular dichroism (ECD) calculations. Compounds 1 and 2 exhibited moderate anti-inflammatory activities, with IC 50 values of 18.21 ± 1.12 and 22.03 ± 0.46 μM, respectively.
