The Future is Already Queer: Contemporary Concepts for Queering Literacy Research

In this multiauthrored, polyvocal piece, we, a group of eight literacy researchers reflects on how we engage queer theories and practices to not only make sense of the here-and-now but to foster queer futures in the present. More specifically, we draw on queer theorizations of futurity as grounded in imagination and care to present a series of snapshots in which each scholar individually reflects on a central question, concept, and/or framework animating their current scholarship, followed by a synthesizing conclusion that reflects on queer possibilities for meeting and moving beyond the quagmire of the present. Our intent is to provide a (necessarily incomplete) kaleidoscopic image of current queer literacies research that speaks both to scholars in literacy education and those interested in LGBTQ+ studies in education.
