Incidence of Nd:YAG capsulotomy after implantation of Asqelio intraocular lenses: a Kaplan-Meier survival analysis

Abstract Purpose To evaluate the incidence of neodymium:yttrium-aluminum-garnet (Nd:YAG) laser capsulotomy following implantation of intraocular lenses (IOLs) from the Asqelio platform and to estimate the cumulative probability of remaining Nd:YAG-free over time using Kaplan–Meier survival analysis. Methods This was a retrospective observational cohort study. Patients who underwent routine cataract surgery with implantation of an IOL from the Asqelio platform between January 2020 and November 2022 were included. Eyes with significant ocular comorbidities or intraoperative complications were excluded. The primary outcome was Nd:YAG capsulotomy. Time to Nd:YAG capsulotomy was analyzed using Kaplan-Meier survival analysis, with eyes without events censored at their last available clinical follow-up visit before the study closing date (December 31, 2025). Results A total of 240 eyes from 147 patients were included. Mean follow-up was 4.23 ± 0.72 years. Nd:YAG capsulotomy was performed in 20 eyes (8.3%). Kaplan-Meier analysis showed a cumulative probability of remaining Nd:YAG-free of 98.8% at 1 year, 96.2% at 3 years, and 91.6% at 5 years, corresponding to cumulative incidences of 1.2%, 3.8%, and 8.4%, respectively. Conclusions IOLs from the Asqelio platform were associated with a low incidence of Nd:YAG capsulotomy over mid- to long-term follow-up. Kaplan-Meier analysis demonstrated a high probability of remaining free from Nd:YAG treatment, supporting favourable long-term resistance to clinically significant posterior capsule opacification.
