Nuclear energy engagement in Alberta, Canada: a critical discourse analysis

This study was comprised of a qualitative critical discourse analysis of the first, text-based, phase of the Canadian province of Alberta’s public engagement process for potential nuclear energy developments through a lens of environmental education and communication. Findings point to the advent of nuclear in the Alberta context as a reverberation of established energy discourse in the province which prioritizes profit for few with low regard for the social, economic, and environmental health of many. Analysis of Alberta’s nuclear engagement documents also revealed incorrect and incomplete facts and evident bias, by the ruling conservatives toward future developments in the province.
