Study of projectile fragment emission in the fragmentation of 28 Si on carbon and copper targets at 130 A MeV

The emission angle distributions, the transverse momentum distributions, and the temperature parameters of the emission source of projectile fragments produced in the fragmentation of 28 Si on C and Cu targets at 130 A MeV are investigated using CR-39 nuclear track detectors. The angular distributions of projectile fragments exhibit systematic broadening with decreasing fragment charge, and the mean values of emission angle and transverse momentum generally decrease as the fragment charge increases for both targets. The cumulative squared transverse momentum distributions of the projectile fragments are described by a single Rayleigh distribution. The temperature parameters of the projectile fragment emission source are mainly in the range of 1–7 MeV and show a general downward trend with increasing fragment charge.
