Giant post-infarction left ventricular pseudoaneurysm with mural thrombus: Diagnosis and successful surgical treatment

Postinfarction ventricular free-wall rupture is a rare mechanical complication after acute myocardial infarction (AMI). When the rupture is contained by epicardial clots or pericardial adhesions, it commonly leads to the formation of a pseudoaneurysm (PSA). With the development of revascularization therapies the incidence of PSA has decreased dramatically with occurrence about 0.2-0.5% of AMI cases [1]. PSA carry a high risk of rupture, with studies estimating risk between 30% and 45% [2]. We present a case of a 53-year-old woman with a giant pseudoaneurysm secondary to a prior AMI of unknown duration.
