ASSOCIATION OF OXIDATIVE STRESS AND ATHEROGENIC LIPID INDICES IN PSORIASIS: A CASECONTROL STUDY
Psoriasis is a chronic inflammatory disorder increasingly recognized as a systemic disease with metabolic andcardiovascular implications. Oxidative stress and dyslipidemia are key contributors to its pathogenesis. The objective is to findout the association between oxidative stress marker malondialdehyde (MDA), Lipoprotein (a), and Lipid Tetrad Index (LTI)in patients with psoriasis and to assess their diagnostic utility. Materials and Methods: A case–control study was conductedinvolving 120 participants (60 psoriasis cases and 60 healthy controls). Biochemical parameters including lipid profile,Lipoprotein (a), and MDA were measured. LTI was calculated. Statistical analyses included comparison tests, correlationanalysis, logistic regression, and ROC curve analysis. Results: Psoriasis patients exhibited significantly elevated levels ofMDA (685.0 ± 304.1 vs 160.8 ± 58.8 nmol/mL), Lipoprotein (a) (51.4 ± 23.7 vs 22.1 ± 14.7 mg/dL), and LTI (p < 0.001).MDA showed the highest diagnostic accuracy (AUC = 0.981). Multivariate analysis identified MDA, Lipoprotein (a), and LTIas independent predictors of psoriasis. Significant correlations were observed between oxidative stress and lipid abnormalities.Conclusion: Psoriasis is associated with marked oxidative stress and atherogenic dyslipidemia. MDA, Lipoprotein (a), andLTI may serve as useful biomarkers for disease assessment and cardiovascular risk stratification.
