Beyond the Resume: A Systematic Review of Psychology-Driven Hiring and Person-Organization Fit in Human Resource Management
AbstractObjective: The purpose of this study is to investigate the impact of psychology (the Five-Factor Model of personality) in combination with structured interviews to increase person-organization (P-O) fit and improve job attitudes (job satisfaction, organizational commitment, and turnover intention) through a systematic review of previous empirical research. Methods: This systematic review was conducted based on the PRISMA guidelines. A comprehensive search was performed in Science Direct, PsycINFO, and Google Scholar search engine to identify primary empirical studies and grey literature published between 2023 and 2026. Studies were included if they examined at least two of the three main variables (structured interviews, person-organization fit, and personality traits). Results: Out of the 884 initial records found, 10 pertinent studies were ultimately selected. This comprehensive review shows that integrating psychology (the Five-Factor Model) with structured interviews facilitates the assessment of person-organization fit and leads to the formation of positive job attitudes. Conclusion: This integrated approach helps organizations make fairer, evidence-based hiring decisions that align with their organizational culture.
