CLINICORADIOLOGIC AND HISTOPATHOLOGICAL FEATURES OF CONSECUTIVE CRANIOSPINAL MENINGIOMAS: A SINGLE-CENTRE PILOT SERIES

Background: Meningiomas are common primary central nervous system tumours with variable clinical, radiological, andhistopathological features. Materials and Methods: This hospital-based descriptive observational pilot study included 20consecutive histopathologically confirmed craniospinal meningiomas diagnosed over 18 months at a tertiary-care centre.Clinical presentation, radiological characteristics, anatomical distribution, histological subtype, and WHO CNS5 grade wereevaluated. Results: The mean age was 47±13 years, and all patients were female. Intracranial tumours accounted for 70%and spinal tumours for 30%. Headache (60%) and impaired vision (50%) were the most common symptoms. All tumourswere well defined; homogeneous enhancement was seen in 70% and peritumoral oedema in 55%. Meningothelialmeningioma was the most frequent histological subtype (55%), followed by psammomatous meningioma (25%). WHOGrade 1 tumours constituted 95%, while 5% were Grade 2; no Grade 3 tumours were identified. Conclusion: Craniospinalmeningiomas in this pilot series were predominantly low-grade, meningothelial tumours occurring in middle-aged women.Larger studies with molecular profiling and long-term follow-up are warranted.
