Abstract

This article develops a scientifically grounded interdisciplinary algorithm for the selection and composition of plants to form a therapeutic environment that purposefully improves air quality and the psychophysiological state of a person. The study analyzes literature data from biology, medicine, psychology, and design; classifies plants by functional characteristics into "donors" and "sanitaries"; and proposes principles of functional zoning, synergy, contextuality, and interactivity. A working hypothesis is advanced that conscious selection and composition of plants based on the synergy of their air-purifying and psychophysiological properties allows for the creation of an environment with a quantitatively measurable multiplicative effect. The neurobiological mechanisms of impact are discussed, including the role of volatile phyto-organic compounds and tactile stimulation. Prospects for integrating "smart" flora with technologies and assessing economic effect are outlined.
